Bayern Munich to congratulate Beckenbauer before Werder game
Sep 10, 2010, 13:40 GMT
Munich - Bayern Munich will honour Franz Beckenbauer before Saturday's Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen which coincides with his 65th birthday.
Beckenbauer, who is now the club's honorary president, will be congratulated by chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge before kick-off in the Allianz Arena, the club said Friday.
'Franz Beckenbauer was and is the greatest personality this club has ever had,' Rummenigge said.
'Our club has much to thank him for, as player, as coach, president, chairman of the supervisory board and as worldwide representative for FC Bayern.
'Franz Beckenbauer and FC Bayern will always be a close and active bond.'
Bayern will be hoping Beckenbauer's birthday will again bring them a win: all six previous competitive matches which fell on his birthday - in 1965, 1971, 1974, 1982, 1999 and 2004 - ended in victories.
