Former Flick manager von Brauchitsch dead
Sep 10, 2010, 19:49 GMT
Berlin - Eberhard von Brauchitsch, one of the most powerful German industrialists during the 1970s, has died at the age of 83, along with his wife, Helga, sources told the German Press Agency dpa on Friday.
The exact date and cause of death were not disclosed.
A former top executive with the powerful Flick conglomerate, he was also synonymous with one of the biggest scandals ever to rock the former West Germany.
In what became known as the Flick Affair, von Brauchitsch distributed around 26 million marks (17 million dollars) to German politicians, parties and foundations in the 1980s in a bid to obtain a reduction in the Flick family's tax liabilities.
Among the recipients was Otto Graf Lambsdorff, who was forced to resign as economics minister after being convicted and fined for tax evasion.
