Remains of 11 people found in a lake on Serbia-Bosnia border

Belgrade - The remains of at least 11 victims of the 1992- 1995 war in Bosnia were found in a drained artificial lake on the border between Bosnia and Serbia, Serbian officials said Tuesday.

'Based on preliminary information, it is believed that the remains belong to the victims of war crimes committed by Milan Lukic and his formations,' Serbian war crimes prosecutors office said in a statement, adding that the search for other possible victims would continue.

Lukic, a leader of Bosnian Serb paramilitary group called White Eagles, was sentenced to life imprisonment in July 2009 by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague for crimes committed against Muslims during the 1992-95 Bosnian war in which Serbs, Croats and Muslims fought amongst themselves.

Last week, media reported that the remains of up to 250 people, presumably Bosnian Muslims, were recovered from the mud at the bottom of the Perucac lake.

The search in Perucac began in August, after the reservoir was partly drained during the reconstruction of the Bajina Basta hydroelectric power plant.
