Czechs halt Google's Street View service expansion
Sep 14, 2010, 13:58 GMT
Prague - The Czech Republic's privacy protection watchdog said Tuesday that it has rejected Google's bid to gather new images for its Street View service in the central European country.
The Office for Personal Data Protection denied Google the registration to expand the service for the second time since opening the registration case in April.
The office ruled that Google's application 'failed to meet all required conditions that would secure that personal data could not be abused,' spokeswoman Hana Stepankova told the German Press Agency dpa.
The privacy watchdog would provide further details on September 22, she said.
The US internet firm and the Czech privacy protection office are also to discuss the fate of the existing Czech images in the service, according to Stepankova.
Google Street View features panoramic street and road images. The service has caused Google legal troubles in several countries, including the US.
