At least two dead in rampage at German hospital
Sep 19, 2010, 22:09 GMT
Loerrach, Germany - At least two people were dead and two more wounded Sunday after a woman went on a rampage in a hospital in Germany's south-west, police said.
Police could not say if there were further dead or injured in the violence at the Elisabeth Hospital in Loerrach, a town close to the Swiss city of Basle.
'With shooting sprees, it's all very unclear immediately,' said police.
The shooting began around 6:30 pm (1630 GMT). Police said the streets surrounding the hospital had been entirely blocked off, along with the central bus station. Aid tents were being set up and police were calling in all available personnel. At least 50 to 1000 police were active at the site.
Police said they also did not know who the woman was or if she had been a hospital patient. No motive was known and the hospital made no comment.
The hospital includes centres for pediatric medicine, gynaecology, and pediatric psychiatry, as well as a maternity ward
