Athens - Two people died and rescue services evacuated dozens of people after heavy rain pounded several Greek Aegean islands and caused widespread flooding, reports said Tuesday.
The islands of Hios, Mytilini, Ikaria and Samos have declared a state of emergency. Heavy rain fell overnight.
Radio reports said a man died in Monday's storm when water carried his car into a rain-swollen river on the island of Hios. The body of a second man was found swept away into a flooded river on the nearby island of Ikaria.
Rescue crews said dozens of people have been evacuated from their homes and cars while damages were reported to hundreds of homes and businesses.
