Turkish premier unhappy with slow pace in EU membership talks
Oct 20, 2010, 15:45 GMT
Helsinki - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday he was unhappy with the slow pace in the country's membership talks with the European Union.
No other country has been kept waiting for so many years, Erdogan said at a joint news conference in Helsinki with his Finnish counterpart Mari Kiviniemi.
The EU risks losing a lot by putting Turkey on hold as the country is a bridge between the Islamic world and Europe, Erdogan said.
Kiviniemi said Helsinki supports Turkey as future member of the EU, and noted that Turkey has carried out many important reforms.
During the two-day visit that began Tuesday the Turkish premier has also met with President Tarja Halonen and other officials.
