Second World War cartridge in firewood injures elderly Germans
Oct 29, 2010, 10:22 GMT
Bielefeld, Germany - Police blamed a discarded Second World War bullet Friday for an explosion in a log fire which injured an elderly German couple as they sat at home.
The live round must have been absorbed inside a growing tree. The cartridge case showed it was a type used in the 1939-45 war, police said in Bielefeld in western Germany.
A concussion effect from the Thursday evening explosion smashed glass in the couple's parlour and wrecked the room. The wife 84, suffered cuts in the face from the flying glass and her 85-year-old husband a cut on the hand.
