Jump in foreign visitor numbers to Germany
Nov 10, 2010, 10:18 GMT
Berlin - German hotels enjoyed a surge in foreign visitors in September, compared to last year's figures compiled in the midst of the global economic crisis.
A total of 6.2 million overnight stays were clocked up by visitors from abroad in September 2010 - a 17 per cent increase on the same month last year.
September is a popular month for tourism to Germany, due in part to Munich's Oktoberfest beer festival, which began in the latter half of the month and drew an estimated 6.4 million visits from Germany and abroad.
This year's increase was due in part to last year's unusually low number of hotel stays, a spokeswoman for the federal statistics office said.
