Four young siblings die in Albania fire
Nov 11, 2010, 14:21 GMT
Tirana, Albania - Four Albanian siblings, aged between 6 and 13 and left alone at home overnight, died in a fire, local television channels reported Thursday.
Police were still investigating the accident in Durres, an Adriatic port located 30 kilometres west of the capital Tirana, but it appears that the two girls and two boys suffocated when a candle set an armchair ablaze.
The fire did not spread, but toxic fumes and smoke killed the sleeping children. They were found Thursday morning by their mother, a singer in a nightclub, when she returned home, Top Channel TV said.
The children's parents are reportedly divorced, with the father living somewhere else.
