Jail for Swiss boys who went on rampage during school trip
Nov 22, 2010, 13:35 GMT
Munich - Three Swiss schoolboys who went on drink and drug- fuelled rampage during a school trip to Germany were given lengthy jail terms by a Munich court Monday.
After drinking and smoking marijuana in a city park, the trio randomly beat up three men in the park, then a businessman, than a student.
None of the five victims died, but some are still receiving treatment and are expected to remain maimed for life.
The attacks in June 2009 apparently began because one boy, Mike B, felt irritable. He was given seven years for attempted murder and causing dangerous body harm.
The others, Benjamin D and Ivan Z, were given 58 and 34 months respectively. Prosecutors had recommended longer terms for all three.
The boys from Zurich, all 16 at the time, had gone to a city park to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana they had brought with them.
The boys apologized during the trial and promised to pay damages. The trial by a Munich youth court was closed to the public and media.
