At least two dead as German bus smashes into apartments

Miltenberg, Germany - At least two people were killed when a bus skidded on an icy road and smashed into a block of flats in the south of Germany late Wednesday, police said.
Eight people living in the now destroyed block and surrounding buildings also had to be treated for shock, along with the driver of a car who managed to avoid a collision with the bus.
A passenger of the 40-seat municipal bus died at the scene, while the driver later succumbed to his injuries.
'The streets around here are very slippery,' said Joachim Bieber, mayor of Miltenberg, by phone.
Police said the bus slid through a left bend in the road, shooting past a two-storey home and tearing away its balconies before slamming into the block of flats. Most of the bus made it into the building, with only the section behind the rear axle left sticking out.
