Kosovo partially repeats marred parliamentary poll (Extra)
Dec 16, 2010, 18:16 GMT
Pristina, Kosovo - The Kosovo election commission on Thursday ordered a repeat vote in three municipalities because of violations in Sunday's snap parliamentary election.
The new vote will be held in Drenas, Skenderaj and Decan, as well as in several polling stations elsewhere, the head of the commission, Valdete Daka, told a press conference in Pristina.
She said the decision was based on evidence of electoral fraud in those places. The new vote was scheduled for January 9.
The opposition, led by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), demanded the repeat of the entire election, alleging widespread fraud by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci's Democratic Party (PDK).
According to the preliminary, incomplete official count, Thaci's PDK won the election with 33.5 per cent of the votes, on a 47 per cent turnout among the 1.6 million eligible voters.
The LDK came in second, with 23.6 per cent.
