Werder Bremen likely to miss Naldo all season
Jan 4, 2011, 17:07 GMT
Belek, Turkey - Brazilian defender Naldo will likely be sidelined all season with to a knee injury, his German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen said on Tuesday.
Naldo, 28, is yet to play in the 2010-11 campaign as he is nursing an oedema in his right knee and continues to undergo treatment.
Managing director Klaus Allofs said at a winter break training camp in Turkey that all treatment efforts so far have not cured the injury. Club doctors said an operation was no option either because it could make matters worse.
'We must accept that it is a long-term issue,' said Allofs. 'It would be a miracle if he could play again in the second half of the season.'
Bremen are struggling this season, ranked a dismal 14th in the Bundesliga and eliminated from the German cup and the Champions League.
