Konstanz, Germany - A 17-year-old Italian female ski jumper who died after collapsing in her hotel room in Germany had contracted a viral infection, authorities said Monday.
A spokesman for the prosecutor's office in Konstanz said a post-mortem had shown the viral infection to be the cause of the death of Simona Senoner.
Senoner was due to compete at the Continental Cup meeting in Schonach when she collapsed Thursday. She was taken to the University Medical Hospital, Freiburg where she was pronounced dead.
Senoner switched from cross-country to ski jumping and was 10th at the junior world championships in Zakapone, Poland in 2008.
