Barcelona-Real Madrid final to be played in Valencia
Feb 4, 2011, 1:09 GMT
Madrid - The final of the Spanish King's Cup between Barcelona and Real Madrid on April 20 will be played in neutral Valencia, according to the website Marca on Friday.
Marca claimed that Valencia's Estadio Mestalla, which is due to be demolished within two years, has been agreed as a venue by Sandro Rosell and Florentino Perez, the presidents of Barca and Real.
An official announcement will be made by the Spanish football federation on February 7.
On Thursday, Jorge Perez, the federation's general secretary, called Valencia 'the natural stage for the final.'
Curiously, online polls showed that many Barca fans wanted the final to be played in Real's Estadio Bernabeu, while many 'Madridista' fans were not adverse to the idea of playing the final in Barca's Camp Nou.
It will be the sixth time that the big two meet in the final. The last time, in 1990, Barca beat Real 2-0 in Valencia.
Barca are away to Real in the league Clasico on April 16, just four days before the cup final. Barca are currently seven points ahead of Real atop La Liga.
