Santander coach Portugal sacked by new owner Ali Syed
Feb 7, 2011, 21:35 GMT
Madrid - Spanish first division club Racing Santander announced late Monday the sacking of coach Miguel Angel Portugal.
The decision was taken by the club's new Indian owner Ali Syed, who is worried about the team being fifth from bottom in La Liga. It came as something as a surprise because the two matches since Syed became owner had been meritorious 1-1 draws, at home to Valencia and away to Zaragoza.
The favourite to take over from Portugal is Marcelino Garcia, who lead Santander to a sixth-place finish in 2007-08 season.
