Barcelona's Puyol doubtful for visit to Arsenal
Feb 9, 2011, 10:07 GMT
Madrid - Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is doubtful for the February 16 Champions League round of 16 first leg away to Arsenal, according to reports on Wednesday in Sport and Mundo Deportivo.
Puyol, 32, has already been out of action for three weeks due to tendinitis and pain in his left knee. He will miss Wednesday's Spain- Colombia friendly and also Saturday's league game away to Sporting Gijon - and probably the Arsenal clash as well.
If Puyol is not fit for the trip to London then coach Pep Guardiola will again field French veteran Eric Abidal in the centre of defence, alongside Gerard Pique, and bring in Maxwell for Abidal at left-back.
On Tuesday Barca announced that Guardiola has agreed to extend his contract until June 2012. His talented team are seven points clear of Real Madrid atop La Liga and have just established a new Spanish league record of 16 straight wins.
