Gottschalk, German TV fixture, retires from Wetten Das show

Berlin - Thomas Gottschalk, 60, announced his retirement Saturday from a TV show, Wetten Das, which has been the most popular family programme in German-speaking Europe for three decades.
The shaggy-haired star said he would finish up 24 years as presenter in summer after a last show, beamed from Mallorca to Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Celebrity guests wager in the live-audience show on the success of unlikely feats.
It was marred in December by an accident that left a vaulting man paralysed.
