Sierra Leone's president invites German business during Berlin trip
Feb 14, 2011, 13:54 GMT
Berlin - Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma on Monday called for German investment, after talks in Berlin with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
'We are inviting the private sector of Germany to come and explore the opportunities that are available, opportunities that are unique to Sierra Leone,' Koroma said.
There was great potential for investment in West African country's mining, agriculture and the tourism sectors, he said.
'We believe that with the right engagement we can have the best tourist destinations in the world,' Koroma told journalists.
Merkel stressed the importance of the rule of law to attract business to Sierra Leone. Koroma said his country was focusing on developing good governance practices.
'We now have about the toughest anti-corruption law in Africa, and we are putting up a fight on the drug barons that are using our country as a transit point,' he said.
'I am here to tell the story that Sierra Leone is now on the path of development,' Koroma added.
Much of Sierra Leone was devastated by a decade-long civil war that ended in 2002, having claimed tens of thousands of lives.
