Vaclav Havel hospitalized with respiratory infection
Mar 8, 2011, 17:20 GMT
Prague - Former Czech president Vaclav Havel was hospitalized Tuesday with a respiratory infection.
The 74-year-old playwright is being treated at Prague's military hospital, according to his spokesperson.
Just a day earlier his office had said Havel would be recuperating at home and still planned to attend the premiere of his new movie called Leaving on March 24.
Havel smoked for decades before quitting. In December 1996, a tumor and part of his right lung were removed.
A former dissident, Havel served lengthy jail terms under communist rule in the 1980s, which also contributed to his health problems.
