French police search for Spanish terrorists after shoot-out

Madrid/Paris - French police were on Sunday searching for two suspected ETA terrorists after a shoot-out in the La Creuse area, central France, in which one policeman was injured.
The suspects had been stopped Saturday at a police checkpoint but drove away, shooting at a police car that gave chase.
Shortly afterwards they drove, guns blazing, through another police barrier before abandoning their car about 20 kilometres away.
The shoot-out came on the same day as thousands of Spaniards took to the streets of Madrid to demand that the government crack down harder on the Basque separatist terrorist group ETA.
The protesters, backed by conservative politicians, want Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to prevent any political parties linked to ETA from taking part in regional elections scheduled for May 22.
