Bad Koenig, Germany - More than 50 people participated in Germany's third annual office chair championships on Saturday, racing each other on a 200-metre downhill course in the town of Bad Koenig, south of Frankfurt.
The contestants were free to adapt their office chairs for race conditions, but were not allowed motors to propel them down the cordoned-off road. Most had mounted inline skater wheels for greater speed.
Racers also wore helmets, knee pads and elbow protectors, as contestants reached speeds of up to 35 kilometres per hour. Some sat on the chair, others lay on their stomachs.
The prize eventually went to Luxembourg native Pierre Feller, who timed in at 26.59 seconds, setting a record.
This year's favourite had been Pedro Crespo, 25, racing under the name of 'Golden Rider.' He had donned a suit for the perfect office look, while more practically-minded contestants wore motorbike outfits.
But he had to pull himself out of the race after crashing in the fifth round.
'We are not taking this - or ourselves - too seriously,' said last year's winner, Jan Paul. 'It's all for fun.'
Standing on the sidelines in preparation for his next race, Paul spoke whilst helping himself to a piece of cake, 'to achieve the perfect racing weight.'
