World War II-era German tank found near Polish scrap yard
Apr 20, 2011, 9:30 GMT
Warsaw - A Polish arms museum was working Wednesday to rescue a World War II-era German Panzer tank found underground near a scrap metal yard in northern Poland.
The Museum of Polish Arms in Kolobrzeg was working to secure the tank, which was located a few metres below ground near Stargard Szczecinski.
Museum officials called the tank a 'jewel' and the first of its kind in the country's arms collections.
The vehicle was discovered after a local man noticed a fragment of it at a nearby scrap metal yard.
Other pieces of the tank will now be dug up and taken to the museum for conservation work, which could take several years.
