Two migrants found dead, one missing near Greek island
May 18, 2011, 8:55 GMT
Athens - The bodies of two migrants, among them a child, were found washed up on a beach on the western Greek coast of Prespes, according to media reports Wednesday.
Officials said they presumed that the child and man had tried to make the crossing from the Ionion island of Lefkada towards Italy when their 8-metre boat capsized in rough seas.
There were 22 other immigrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan on the same vessel, who survived. They were rescued early Wednesday by coast guard vessels and were taken to a local hospital.
One person was still missing.
The Aegean and Ionion Sea is a popular route for migrants trying to enter the European Union.
