Athens - A US tourist was killed and another four people injured in a rockfall on the Greek holiday island of Santorini, police said Monday.
Officials said the 52-year-old man was hit after a large boulder came unstuck from the towering volcanic cliffs of the island and tumbled onto a group of tourists who had been on donkey rides, for which the island is renowned.
The tourists had been making their way down a winding path to the sea from the village of Oia on the Aegean island when the landslide occurred.
The American man was killed while his wife and their 22-year-old daughter were injured. Another two female tourists from Mexico also suffered injuries.
The four injured were taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries remained unclear.
