Six injured after bus crashes into Stockholm crowd
May 28, 2011, 17:32 GMT
Stockholm - Six people were injured, one seriously, when an out-of-control bus slammed into a crowded square in central Stockholm Saturday, reported police.
One man was seriously injured in the accident. The victims also included a 17-month-old child and four adults, all of whom only suffered light injuries.
A police spokesman said the driver lost control of the city bus when he could not get it to stop at a downtown bus stop. Instead, it rolled down some stairs and toward the crowded square.
Some people were struck by the bus on the stairs. The city was especially crowded because of the Stockholm Marathon.
'It looked like a warzone,' said Victoria Strand, quoted in the Aftonbladet newspaper.
The bus driver is in shock after the accident. The bus company SL gave no reason for the incident, other than to say that the motor suddenly revved up.
