UN prosecutor: Belgrade took important step in arresting Mladic
Jun 6, 2011, 15:23 GMT
New York - The prosecutor for the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague on Monday praised the Belgrade government for taking a 'considerable step forward' in arresting former Serb General Ratko Mladic.
Serge Brammertz, prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), told the UN Security Council in New York that his office was satisfied with Belgrade's cooperation in bringing Mladic to justice.
Mladic is considered responsible for the massacre of around 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995. He was arrested by Belgrade, extradited and appeared before the tribunal at The Hague last week.
