Two Austrian mountains on sale for 121,000 euros
Jun 9, 2011, 17:42 GMT
Vienna - The Austrian state is hoping to make 121,000 euros (176,000 dollars) by selling two mountain peaks in the Tyrolean Alps, media reported Thursday.
The country's real estate administration agency announced on its website that it is selling the 2,690-metre-high Grosser Kinigat and the 2,600-metre-high Rosskopf on the Italian border.
'They are selling islands in Greece. In Austria, it's mountain peaks,' Josef Ausserlechner, mayor of the Kartitsch village near the mountains, was quoted as saying by Austrian press agency APA.
He said his community was interested in buying. But he was only willing to pay several 1,000 euros, calling the area a 'wasteland.'
The real estate administration said in its ad that the higher of the two mountains offers 'one of the most scenic views' in this part of the Alps.
