Jul 1, 2011, 12:02 GMT
Vienna - Misguided motherly love has resulted in a jail term for an 80-year-old Austrian woman who was found guilty Friday for smuggling drugs from the Netherlands for her son.
The son told the court in Innsbruck that he did not make the trips himself because of his poor health, Austrian press agency APA reported.
'Mommy did not make a profit, she did it because she loves me,' he told the court.
The jury found that the woman had brought 1.5 kilogrammes of heroin and half a kilogramme of cocaine to Austria in the past two years.
She was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
The son was found guilty of selling the drugs and was handed a sentence of 8 years.
The verdicts and sentences are pending appeals.
