Obama, Merkel discuss debt crisis

Washington - US President Barack Obama spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the debt crisis in Europe ahead of Thursday's meeting of the European Council.
'They agreed that dealing effectively with this crisis is important for sustaining the economic recovery in Europe as well as for the global economy,' White House spokesman Jay Carney said.
There are concerns that the crisis in Greece could spillover to the rest of Europe and harm the worldwide economic recovery. The US is also wrestling with deficit problems and worries of a potential debt crisis.
