Jeffren to leave Barcelona for Sporting Lisbon
Aug 1, 2011, 19:55 GMT
Madrid - Winger Jeffren is poised to leave European champions Barcelona to sign for Portguese giants Sporting Lisbon, according to his father on Monday.
Efren Suarez, Jeffren's father and agent, said late Monday: 'The deal is nearly done. We will soon travel to Lisbon to undergo medical checks and sign the contract.'
Jeffren is currently with the Barca squad on their tour of the United States. He is expected to leave the tour on Tuesday to fly to Lisbon.
Sporting will pay Barca around 5 million euros (7.2 million dollars) for the left winger, who was part of the Spain squad that won the European under-21 championship in June in Denmark.
Jeffren, 23, was born in Venezuela but is a product of the famed Barca youth scheme. He made his debut in 2009 but has enjoyed little playing time recently.
He is the third youngster to be sold off by Barca this summer, after Bojan Krkic and Oriol Romeu, who have departed for AS Roma and Chelsea respectively.
