Atletico Madrid announce departure of veteran Forlan
Aug 28, 2011, 18:18 GMT
Madrid - Spanish giants Atletico Madrid announced on Sunday the departure of veteran striker Diego Forlan.
Forlan, 32, is poised to join Inter Milan for around five million euros (7.3 million dollars), before the summer transfer window closes on Wednesday.
The Uruguayan striker joined Atletico from Villarreal in 2007 for 23 million euros, and quickly formed a lethal partnership with Argentine Sergio Aguero.
Forlan scored both goals in the 2-0 defeat of Fulham in the May 2010 Europa League final. However, last season his relationship with the fans, and with coach Quique Sanchez Flores, was tense.
Three weeks ago Aguero left for Manchester City. To replace Aguero and Forlan the red-and-whites have signed Radamel Falao from Porto and Adrian Lopez from Deportivo Coruna.
Atletico made a disappointing start to the league campaign on Sunday, with a goalless draw at home to Osasuna.
