Czech parliamentary party leader loses immunity
Aug 30, 2011, 16:00 GMT
Prague - The Czech parliament on Tuesday voted to lift the immunity of Vit Barta, the chairman of the ruling party Public Affairs, and parliamentarian Jaroslav Skarka, paving the way for the two to be investigated on allegations of bribery.
The vote was 177 votes in favour with 3 against.
Barta is accused of paying Skarka and another member of parliament between 7,000 and 20,000 euros to order to win their loyalty. The 37-year-old Barta in April was forced to resign his position as transport minister after extensive accusations of corruption and spying.
He has led his party in parliament since July.
