Copenhagen - A fire early Wednesday destroyed a well-known multi-purpose concert hall and sports arena in the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
The KB Hallen arena was built in 1938, and given listed status earlier this year. It has hosted concerts by music greats including Bob Dylan, Louis Armstrong, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones as well as sports events and flea markets.
An erotic fair was to have opened there later Wednesday.
Twenty people who slept in the hall overnight were able to escape the venue and three people were treated for smoke inhalation, a spokesman for the emergency services told news agency Ritzau.
Inhabitatants in the vicinity were advised to keep windows and ventilation closed due to the smoke.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
