Ring tone foils flustered Oktoberfest pickpocket
Oct 3, 2011, 11:34 GMT
Munich - A pickpocket at Germany's Oktoberfest took on too much when he snagged a smartphone he couldn't turn off, police said Monday.
The thief allegedly stole the phone from a British visitor to the annual festival in Munich. However, when the phone started ringing shortly afterwards, the thief could not figure out how to turn it off.
Desperate, he turned to a person whom he hoped would prove a helpful stranger. Instead, that person was an undercover police officer patrolling the crowd... for pickpockets.
Police said the victim, once he'd noticed the theft, had borrowed another phone to call his own in the hope of tracking it down.
