Serbian bishop: Hitler had more sense than today's politicians
Oct 19, 2011, 16:01 GMT
Belgrade - A Serbian Orthodox Church bishop on Wednesday compared the presence of international missions in Kosovo to the occupation of Serbia by Adolf Hitler's Germany and alleged that the Nazis had more sense than today's European politicians.
The bishop, Amfilohije, was referring to efforts by the Kosovo government, backed by the European Union and NATO, to assert control over the rebellious Serb enclave.
'I urge all domestic and European politicians with reason to think and reconsider their decisions and to find a just solution for the Kosovo tragedy,' he said at the presentation of his books on Kosovo.
'Even Hitler had enough sense to leave the northern part of Kosovo under the Serbian administration, even if it was under German occupation,' Amfilohije said.
With its mostly Albanian population, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. NATO and the EU maintain missions in the former province to keep the peace and enforce the law.
