Two French climbers found dead after a week trapped in Alps
Nov 9, 2011, 13:33 GMT
Paris/Rome - Two French climbers, who had been missing for a week in the Alps, were found dead Wednesday, Italy's Ansa news agency reported.
Olivier Sourzac, a mountain guide, and Charlotte Demetz, an experienced climber, both in their forties, were trapped by bad weather last Wednesday on the Mont Blanc massif, on the border between France and Italy.
A helicopter located the bodies at 4,050 metres on Walker Peak, French media reported.
Previous attempts to rescue the pair by helicopter and on foot had been thwarted by snow and fog.
In their last telephone contact from the mountain, on Friday, Sourzac said he had dug a hole in the snow under an ice ledge for shelter.
