Special commission to help fight against football violence
Nov 14, 2011, 14:36 GMT
Berlin - German football and state authorities agreed on Monday to set up a commission to tackle football violence more efficiently.
The decision was taken at round-table talks in the interior ministry, bringing together minister Hans-Peter Friedrich, German football federation president Theo Zwanziger and league head Reinhard Rauball, further politicians as well as representatives from the police, justice authorities and fan projects.
'There are no immediate solutions. Measures already taken must be optimized. Violence is not only a problem in football and can only be fought in a joint effort,' said German Football League president Reinhard Rauball.
The talks were set up after several incidents around German cup matches last month.
In some of the worst violence, Dynamo Dresden fans fought police before and after their team's game at Borussia Dortmund, which was also stopped three times because Dresden fans threw flares and other objects onto the pitch.
