Bremen's Pizarro out with knee injury, possibly until end of year
Nov 23, 2011, 10:02 GMT
Bremen, Germany - Werder Bremen forward Claudio Pizarro has partially torn a knee ligament and could be sidelined for the rest of the year, the local Syker Kreiszeitung paper said on Wednesday.
The report quoted Pizarro as saying that he will definitely miss Sunday's Bundesliga game against Stuttgart and that the right knee injury could take 'possibly up to four weeks' to heal.
Pizarro, 33, is Bremen's most reliable striker with 11 goals in the season.
An absence of the Peruvian until the winter break in mid-December would be a bad blow for fifth-placed Bremen, who are coming off a 5-0 defeat at Borussia Moenchengladbach and face the likes of leaders Bayern Munich and Schalke over the next weeks.
