LEAD: Bremen coach: Pizarro may be fit to play on weekend
Nov 23, 2011, 14:28 GMT
Bremen, Germany - Werder Bremen forward Claudio Pizarro may play on Sunday against Stuttgart after originally being quoted as saying a knee injury could possibly sideline him for the rest of the year.
'There will be no long absence,' coach Thomas Schaaf said on Wednesday, expressing his hope that Pizarro 'will be in action again by the end of the week.'
Bremen said in a statement that Pizarro pulled a ligament in Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Borussia Moenchengladbach. Pizarro himself was quoted as saying that he partially tore the ligament in his right knee which could take 'up to four weeks' to heal.
Pizarro, 33, is Bremen's most reliable striker with 11 goals in the season. Bremen are placed fifth and face the likes of league leaders Bayern Munich and Schalke before the winter break in mid-December.
