Nov 25, 2011, 12:09 GMT
Berlin - A 40-year-old woman gave birth Friday to a six-kilogram baby boy in Berlin without a caesarean section.
'Our research shows that a baby weighing this much has never been born without an operation in Germany,' said Wolfgang Henrich, the head doctor of the Charite hospital's obstetrics unit.
The baby joins a family of 14 children. The hospital said the mother is herself overweight, weighing 240 kilograms.
