Frenchman accused of killing son by putting him in washing machine

Paris - A Frenchman has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 3-year-old son by putting him in the washing machine, apparently as a punishment, Le Parisien newspaper reported Monday.
A neighbour of the family in the north-eastern village of Germigny-l'Eveque told the paper that the mother of the toddler, named Bastien, ran to her for help on Friday evening.
The child was white and cold, she said.
'I took him in my arms like a broken doll and I felt his last heart beat,' Alice, the neighbour, said.
Bastien's 5-year-old sister said her father had put her brother in the washing machine, she added.
Le Parisien also reported Bastien had thrown another classmate's drawing in the toilet a few days before and quoted Alice's husband as saying Bastien's father used to lock the little boy in a cupboard to punish him.
The father was arrested Sunday on charges of murdering a minor. The mother was also arrested on charges of not assisting a person in danger.
Several media reports said the couple denied the charges and claimed the little boy fell down the stairs.
