Clinton welcomes Gilani comments on US-Pakistan cooperation
Dec 5, 2011, 16:49 GMT
Bonn, Germany - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Clinton welcomed comments on Monday by Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who envisages continued cooperation between the two countries.
Clinton said she was 'encouraged' by Gilani's comments, in which 'he expected that the US and Pakistan would continue our cooperation in a number of areas that are of mutual interest and concern, first and foremost our joint fight against terrorism.'
Nevertheless, Clinton said it was 'unfortunate' that Pakistan did not participate in the Bonn conference on Afghanistan.
'Today's conference was an important milestone towards the kind of stability and security that is important for Pakistan as well as for Afghanistan.
'I expect that Pakistan will be involved in going forward and we expect them to play a constructive role,' Clinton added.
