Russia sends humanitarian aid convoy to Serbia
Dec 7, 2011, 8:55 GMT
Moscow - A convoy of Russian government lorries loaded with humanitarian aid set off for Serbia on Wednesday, officials said in Moscow.
The 40 vehicles were loaded with generators, blankets, tableware and camp furniture, Interfax news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The 284-tonne shipment followed an airborne aid delivery on November 17.
The Kremlin considers itself a supporter of Serbia and ethnic Serbs, although Russia rejected a mass application by 50,000 ethnic Serbs from Kosovo for Russian passports last week, saying the application violated Russian law.
Russia would support ethnic Serbs in Kosovo through other means, Foreign Ministry officials said.
