Dec 7, 2011, 10:13 GMT
Wolfsburg, Germany - Former Germany midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger is set to return from knee surgery before the winter break, his Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg said in a statement.
Hitzlsperger, 29, resumed training on Tuesday. He said 'I would love to be back' for Saturday's game at Werder Bremen, but added that 'we must wait and see how the knee reacts' in further training sessions.
Hitzlsperger has played five games since joining Wolfsburg in summer as he underwent the operation in early November. The 2009 champions Wolfsburg are placed a modest 12th in the league with two games left until the hibernation period.
