Russia vows to respond to NATO missile shield in Europe

Brussels - Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that Russia would 'respond adequately' if NATO failed to address its concern over a missile shield system that the alliance wants to install in Europe.
'Apart from general remarks about trust and not targeting systems against each other, we need legally binding arrangements,' Lavrov said in Brussels after a meeting with NATO foreign minister. 'We want to have clear guarantees. Because good intentions come and pass, while military capabilities stay.'
'If Russian concerns are not taken into account, we will respond adequately at every stage of implementation,' Lavrov said, without elaborating.
