Polish foreign minister survives no confidence vote
Dec 16, 2011, 10:31 GMT
Warsaw - Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Friday survived a parliamentary vote of no confidence called by the opposition in protest at his handling of the eurozone crisis.
The vote, which saw 292 lawmakers vote against the motion and 152 vote in favour, followed a long debate on the country's future in the European Union.
The opposition Law and Justice Party argued that Sikorski was undermining Polish sovereignty by supporting a stronger European Commission tasked with supervising government spending and budgets.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday defended his government's backing for an EU treaty allowing for closer fiscal union.
Poland holds the six-month rotating presidency of the EU until the end of the year.
