Bad weather brings part of Greece to standstill
Dec 22, 2011, 8:27 GMT
Athens - Snowstorms, heavy rain and strong winds caused a transport chaos around Greece on Thursday.
Ferry services were disrupted and there was heavy snowfall in many parts of central and northern Greece, prompting some schools to close.
Kilometres-long queues were reported on motorways as drivers were forced to reduce their speed or stop to fit snow chains.
The sudden wintry weather, with strong winds and lower temperatures, struck late on Wednesday as many people prepared to leave the Greek capital and head towards their hometowns, villages and islands for the Christmas break.
