Hertha Berlin confirm Michael Skibbe as coach
Dec 22, 2011, 10:21 GMT
Berlin - Former Germany assistant coach Michael Skibbe has been appointed Hertha Berlin coach in succession of Markus Babbel, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Thursday.
Hertha said in a statement that Skibbe will be officially presented later in the day.
Skibbe has reportedly signed a contract until 2014. He joins Hertha from Turkish club Eskisehrspor, according to the Bild daily for a fee of 250,000 euros (326,000 dollars).
Skibbe was Germany assistant coach under Rudi Voeller from 2000 until 2004. He has coached in the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Babbel, who led Hertha back into the top flight in summer, was sacked on Sunday following a rift with club officials, with club president Werner Gegenbauer accusing Babbel of being untruthful in statements over his future.
